Former toy designer, current UA-cam maker and general robotics, electrical and mechanical engineer, I’m a fan of doing it yourself and innovation by trial and error. My channel is where I share some of my useful and not-so-useful inventions, designs and maker advice. Iron Man is my go-to cosplay, and 3D printing can solve most issues - broken bolts, missing parts, world hunger, you name it.

World's First SCREW-BIKE
Ad: Thanks to Odoo for sponsoring this video, try Odoo for free now www.odoo.com/r/JtZ
Do you remember when I made a bicycle with an omni-wheel on the front? A while later I moved on and tried to make a bike with two omni-wheels.
As soon as I’d assembled that version I realised it would have been better to have made Mecanum wheels, which have the little wheels slanted all around them. These are typically used on the four corners of a robot so it can move in any direction, but I want to put them all in a line, so the bike still balances sideways, but can screw itself along.

Colin Furze Helped me test my TANK

AD: Go to: pvcase.com/JamesBruton try PVcase for free! Do you remember when Colin Furze built the Rhino tank and then got stuck in a ditch and had to pull it out with a JCB? The concept was pioneered by Elie Aghnides on the 1950s. The idea being that due to the domed-shaped wheels, the more your sink into mud, the more grip it has. Colin Furze converted a dumper truck to build his version of th...
How I Built a Walking Star Wars Droid

AD: Go to: pvcase.com/JamesBruton try PVcase for free! This project is based on some Star Wars Droids which Disney Imagineering have had walking around Galaxies Edge Theme Park. Obviously they have far more resources than me, and they trained their robots in a simulation before building them. Yeah I built mine in a few weeks. In the previous video I built a very simple pair of legs with only fo...

Ad: Thanks to PCBWay for sponsoring this video:www.pcbway.com/ Do you remember when I built openDog version 3 and I designed cycloidal drives - there’s 12 of them in that machine and it’s still going strong. The motors are brushless motors controlled by ODrives and I‘ve got some more projects coming up this year using the new ODrive S1 servo kit which you’ll see in the next few months. I want t...

AD: Go to: pvcase.com/JamesBruton try PVcase for free! Do you remember the time Colin Furze pulled a string and it made a cup of tea in another room? I'm building a marble machine which uses the force of gravity from the marble to make a cup of tea! A ball runs through the marble machine and its force is used to activate elements of the team making machine. CAD & Code: github.com/XRobots/Marble...
I found a use for the Mobius Strip Tank
Переглядів 311 тис.4 місяці тому
Ad: Thanks to PCBWay for sponsoring this video:www.pcbway.com/ A mobius strip or loop is a one-sided object, and we can easily demonstrate the principle by getting a strip of paper, putting one twist in it, and joining the ends together. The original tank I built has tracks like this, because it was suggested in the comments of another video, but it was hard to think of good reasons why it need...
I built a Giant Robot Furby

AD: Go to: pvcase.com/JamesBruton try PVcase for free! It's time for the Makers' Secret Santa. This year I'm making a giant animatronic robot Furby for very a special little boy. I used 3D printing, an Arduino and various other electronics, and brightly coloured fabric to make a 'Furby Surprise'. Makers this year are: @colinfurze @xylafoxlin @BeckyStern @ThisOldTony @KidsInventStuff @LOOKMUMNOC...
Mechanically Stable Monowheel
Переглядів 305 тис.5 місяців тому
Ad: Thanks to PCBWay for sponsoring this video:www.pcbway.com/ I previously built a small MonoWheel which is a single wheel that runs along with one motor driving it. It balances on its edge like rolling a coin. Monowheels have been built large enough for people to ride in, which looks like a fun project. My monowheel had some stability control which measured the angle of the internals and modi...
Walking Star Wars Droid Prototype
Переглядів 350 тис.5 місяців тому
AD: Go to: pvcase.com/JamesBruton try PVcase for free! A number or people have sent me various videos of the new Star Wars Droids walking around Disney’s Galaxies Edge theme park. These are smallish bipedal Droid characters which are a bit like BD-1 but kind of bigger and with bigger joints, because they aren’t fiction. The robot I’m going to build in this video will only have four motors. I’m ...
Mobius Strip Tank

Ad: Thanks to PCBWay for sponsoring this video:www.pcbway.com/ I received a UA-cam comment from one of my UA-cam channel members on another tank video which suggested building a Mobius strip tank. They didn’t really know why that’s a good idea, and I don’t either, but we’re going to build one anyway and see what happens. A mobius strip or loop is a one-sided object known as a non-orientable sur...
Jet Powered air engine

AD: Go to: pvcase.com/JamesBruton try PVcase for free! You can’t suck yourself along with a vacuum cleaner, so don’t bother trying that. However, I did build a vacuum cleaner powered air engine which I could ride along on. This design was inspired by UA-camr Matthias Wandell, and his original design was made from wood. I’ve built a few projects recently where I pushed myself along with electric...

Obstacle course!
You aren’t really doing it you are just going from looking left to cross and right to cross
Seems like this could actually be much more functional if the wheels where just mounted at 90 degrees. Then you could still get the smooth sideways translations and turning rotations, but then you could also get much faster/smoother forward/backward movement. Putting the wheels side by side, would require independent wheel suspension, but I'm not sure there is any reason you couldn't just put the four wheels inline, except maybe the tire surfaces would need to be more rotund/rounded.
Don't know why you made the bike frame swivel between front and back wheels. Don't know why you didn't just make leaning the whole bike side to side cause the whole bike to translate side to side. That would feel natural and intuitive, while handlebars could just do rotation, which would also feel natural and provide a stable place to hold onto for balance.
Look mom no computers is pissed 😂 This is all computer powered. Polyphonic playing is incredible
Song is a banger. DJ JImmy Robot 🤖.
now use it on a unicycle
The cup is too shallow and wide while the bag is a little too recessed, and the BBs are too large. The smaller and harder your beads the better it will work in general.
I love how everyone uses the time-tested "can't stop that with my hands" method to show that something is awesome and will be useful.
use water at 800c. then it would be the tea-800c
good to know where to buy more bearings when you lose them. XD
Rhino 2 needs some steering and a seat.
So your idea would work but as far as bikes go there’s a reason why they have a complete frame compared to scooters where the position of the front wheel is to the frame to handle stresses. There is also too little friction in the back, unfortunately to remain stable the caster would need more drag than the front at all times hence why all recreational rides have rear braking primarily and front is only supplemental.
How are you cooling these units? Heat dissipation appears to be an issue even for commercial all-metal ones.
Why not invert the controls for going sideways so that you are leaning and pushing the handles in the same direction?
what stupid trash
Solo sirve para ir de lado ??? 🤷
Why are you on the phone ??
Unas bellezas desde el punto de la ingeniería 😊
hate to change the tyres on that thing 🙂
I've been drawing up a e scooter with this same concept and someone else already did it and better lol
E
This reminds me shagohod from metal gear solid 3. Yours confirms that its doable
Won't changing the direction of the wheels from sideways to forward make it a more practical solution providing higher forward or backward movement speeds and lower sideway movement speeds?
Art
This could be incredibly useful for film and cinema application. You can get some really smooth shots on a nonlinear path without needing to have or program a super complicated rig, or asking your camera man to run at top speed for the duration of the shot. Just jump on the bike with a gimble and you can get pretty close to the same kind of thing with full human control behind the shot.
This is what black excellence looks like
Furby is an electronic you.🤬
Thats awesome! I really liked the Star Wars droids/Robots - its really cool to see an open source version of them :)
It's really hard to not be crazy impressed and be ready to spend thousands to have my own...
Lol....
New bumper car tech
So we can see it can go side to side and in circles but how well can it hold a straight line? If it's going to be something that someday might replace our conventional means of transportation then a straight line is important. You don't want someone driving down the interstate and end up totally sideways. Will it go perfectly straight without kicking out to the side?
I love this. It’s such a silly and needless thing to build, but it looks like so much fun. I’m sure it is also a cool application of math stuff that I am not clever enough to understand. Because really, science isn’t about asking “why?” It’s about asking “why not?”
Crazy, but not less impressive.
This guy really took screwing around to the next level🔥🔥
Нахера? А главное - зачем?
It doesn’t go straight = FAIL
so maybe some video of it going straight? can it ride straight?
fook this ima sell cocaine instead
BB-8
Finally a teensy 4.x enjoy the ~330x speed improvement!
This is what nightmares are made of.
maybe skid steer controls would be a little better?
So your screwed. Sorry.
